Vittorio Grigolo signs exclusive contract with Sony Classical

Vittorio Grigolo - The Italian Tenor
12 Avr 2010

Sony Classical is proud to announce an exclusive, long-term agreement with the highly-acclaimed young Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo, already one of the most sought-after singers in the world. His debut album for the label will be released in Autumn 2010 and present his unique approach to the art of the Italian tenor repertoire in a recital comprising masterpieces by Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti.

Vittorio Grigolo was destined for musical stardom from an early age. As a child he was a soloist in the celebrated Sistine Chapel Choir and appeared opposite the great Luciano Pavarotti as the Pasterello in Puccini's Tosca at the tender age of 13. Ten years later he became the youngest tenor ever to debut at Italy's premier opera house, La Scala, Milan.
In a remarkably short time he has established himself at the world's most prestigious opera houses and festivals, and has collaborated with musicians of the calibre of Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and Antonio Pappano. This year he will open New York's Metropolitan Opera season in La Bohème and partner Anna Netrebko in Massenet's Manon at London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Vittorio Grigolo's remarkable voice, handsome stage presence and outstanding dramatic abilities make him the natural heir to the great Italian tenor tradition. His beautiful timbre and sensitive musicianship recall such illustrious predecessors as Beniamino Gigli, Giuseppe di Stefano and Luciano Pavarotti. Like those legends Vittorio Grigolo has also gained success and acclaim beyond the confines of the opera house, with a platinum and gold album to his credit and a Grammy nomination for his recording of Bernstein's West Side Story.
For his debut on Sony Classical he returns to the major passion of his life, the operatic masterpieces of his native country. From the exquisite bel canto of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore and La Favorita, the soaring lyricism of Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera and Il Trovatore to the lush romanticism of Puccini's La Bohème and Tosca this album shows the incredible abilities of this remarkable young singer as today's outstanding exponent of a treasured vocal tradition.

Vittorio Grigolo said: "As a young boy I was always fascinated, listening to recordings of all the famous tenors and now I cannot believe it is my moment to join those great artists with my own particular sound and style. The Sony Classical team will make this adventure more powerful and special. Our synergy will bring my passion for the beauty of opera directly to the ears and hearts of music lovers all around the world".

Bogdan Roscic, President of Sony Classical, said: "To hear a voice like Vittorio's in full flight is the most fundamental and powerful thrill opera has to offer. Also, he has a timbre that's immediately recognizable, something that, even among the world's elite singers, few artists are blessed with – and something Pavarotti shrewdly recognized as one of the main reasons for his success. After our first recording sessions with Vittorio in Parma I can promise a moving experience to anybody interested in the beauty of the human voice."
